Verdugo Academy's ASB was created in 2017 as a way to bring together our high school students and create a prom for special needs students at College View School.
In 2018, we expanded our program to include a student council and our first board was created with a president, vice-president, secretary, and treasurer. Enough money was raised over the year to pay for the entire prom for College View as well as put on an activity or event each month of the school year, ending with a roller skating party open to all Verdugo Academy students.
Middle school students were welcomed into ASB as well and our group grew from approximately 8 students to 18 students.
In 2019, we continued to find ways to reach out to our students and to connect with our friends at College View. Due to COVID-19 some of our in person activities were put on hold. With some creative thought we were able to put on the junior/senior prom for College View by hosting a live Zoom prom with DJ Sasha and our Student Council members. Many people from our community joined in the fun and danced to the songs selected by each College View junior and senior.
ASB-Student Council may be taken as an elective for high school students, earning 5 credits per 60 hours of meetings and service time. Please talk to your teacher for more information.
